This is a spin-off story i.e. epilogue of the series, focusing again on Althea, the girl from the first book, and later appears again in book 6.
It's a sci-fi dystopian setting in which there are people with superpowers i.e. psionics. Althea is a girl with healing powers (she's a paladin?), it makes her extremely valuable. The book is a direct sequel of book 6.
